Swallowing Stones

As we read Swallowing Stones, each week I will ask to to write a paragraph that includes any questions, comments, reflections, connections, and/or thoughts about the book. Be sure that you write in complete sentences and that your paragraph has a strong introduction, ample details, and a solid conclusion. You may comment to one another's blogs and I encourage you to do so. I will comment on your responses as well. I look forward to reading your blog responses!

In Swallowing Stones, do you think Micheal feels guilt for what he did? Do you think he will own up to firing the gun? What do you think you would do in his situation?

11-7-08

Please summarize what we have read in the book thus far. Then, write a reaction...try starting with "I think...or I don't think that..."

12-5-08

What does Michael continue to do every night? Who notices ?

Where has Jenna’s boyfriend , Jason , been ?

Gun control is an issue that affects everyone’s emotions in powerful ways. How do you stand on the issue ?

12-22-08

Do you think the police will find out who shot the gun? What would it take for you to admit to such a crime? Do you even think that a crime was commited? Why or why not?

In this book we read about two or three chapters and it gives you both sides of the story, the kid who shot the gun and the girl going through the pain of her dad dieing by the bullet the boy shot. I think this book is really boring so far. The book stays on one thing for pages at a time justs keeps bringing up the begginging of the story.

We haven't read that much of the book yet... But so far it seems pretty good; I think that as we read on its going to get so much better. It's a lot of thinking that you have to do and your opinion. Like I think that if they found out that he shoot the gun off that he should be charged as an adult, even though he did kill a man; it was still a big accident. And I think that he shouldn't be charged for something that he didn't mean to happen.

The swallowing stone is about a teenager who got a gun for a present and he shot it off and killed a man working outside. So he heard about it and got scared so he buried the gun and laid low for a while. And so they are explaining how much pain the family is with there dad gone. So the police are trying to find out how he got shot.

In the book we read about 3 chapters so far. What happens is that a kid gets a gun for his birthday and he decides to shoot it. What he didn’t know was that he hit someone. The guy that died was shot while he was fixing his roof and he fell to the ground. Police said that the reason he died was unknown. They worked as hard as they could to find out who shot him. At least this is what happened so far.

My claas is reading Swallowing Stones. The book is about a boy who just turned 17 and for his birth day he got a gun. So when he got the gun him and his friend went in the woods to shoot it. He shot it straight up in the air, the next day when he was in the car he heard about a man being shot on his roof from a bullit from the sky. And right away he thought that he had killed a man. That is as far as mine class has got in the book.

In the book, Swallowing Stones, we are learning about the death of a girl's father. He was on the roof doing work, when he was shot from a bullet that came from no where. There really was a place that it came from, though, and that was the gun of a teenage boy, that was given to him from his grandfather form his birthday. He shot the gun into the air just to say he pulled the see what would happen or what it would feel like to pull the trigger of a gun, but he never intended for it to hit someone. I like the book so far, but it's not my favorite book. I would have rather read, something else.

In the beginning of the book Swallowing Stones, the kid shoots off a gun that kills an old man about a mile away. The daughter of the old man is now very sad and depressed that she lost her father by a random bullet.

I think swallowing stones is a pretty good book and it’s very realistic and I know it was an accident but stuff like this can really happen. Its nerve wrecking. This book is pretty fun to read and also gruesome and weird and an example is when the kid heard that a kid a shot a gun at this time and that’s the time he shot it. So when he hears about the mysterious death he nose it’s him and from the thought that he killed some one he throws up. It is a very sad book because a lot of people are getting affected by this death like when the little girl saw her dad dead on the floor and had to tell her mom the he’s dead.

So far in Swallowing Stones, a fiction book by Joyce Mc Donald, a lot of things have happened. Michael got a gun for his birthday and shot it into the air to see what would happen. Nothing did and he went on with his day. Then, the next morning in the newspaper, Michael read about a man who was repairing his roof, when he was shot from a bullet that came out of no where. It hit him in the head and he died and I think he also fell off of the roof. Michael knows that he's the one who killed Jenna Ward's father, but he doesn't know how to confess and has been carrying the guilt of accidently killing someone, ever since he found out that he's the one who killed the man on the roof!!!

He sits on the steps untill someone picks him up, soon Jenna notices that someone has been sitting outside the church since she lives right across the street form it. She starts watching Micheal and feels bad for him. Aslo Jenna's boyfriend has been out of town so she hasn't seen him in awhile.

where has Jenna’s boyfriend, Jason, been? He has been traveling up in the north Gun control is an issue that affects everyone’s emotions in powerful ways. How do you stand on the issue? I think that people should be restricted on when they can use a gun and if is under safe cretin point of time and in cretin seasons unless it is in a rifery range.

Devin's blog:

In swallowing stones this book is kind of interesting because its some what fiction but also non fiction because it can be a true stroy because things like this happen but some body made it up. But so far its pretty intense and I think this guy cant take it hes going to snap buy either confessing that he killed the person or i think the worst thing is him commiting suicide from all the pressure.

rparla said...

In Swallowing Stones the police are getting closer to who shot the gun, and Micheal is getting more nervous everyday. If I was in his shoes I would have already confessed. I wouldn't be able to take that much pressure and being that nervous for a long period of time. I also think the police will probably find out he shot the gun or maybe Micheal might confess before they find out.

Unknown said...

I think the police will find out who shot the gun. It would take a lot of guts to admit to it, but I would so that I wouldn't get in even more trouble for it, later on, although I would be histerically crying, for the terrible, accidental crime that I would have committed. I do think that Michael did it, however, I think the author will make it be suicide or someone else had done it or something, just to make the story, even more interesting.

I have a feeling that the cops will find out that Michael was the one that shot the gun. A crime like that i dont think i would do some thing like kill someone even if i didn't mean to. Especially the fact that i have/would never hold a gun. I feel kthat a crime happened but i dont think that Michael should go to jail because he didn't know that this would happen.

derek said...

I don’t think he will get in trouble because there were no witnesses from the guy who got shot so I don’t think he will get in trouble. I think it would be really hard to admit it. I don’t know if I would admit because no matter what would pretty much go to jail. I think that he did commit in a crime. He killed someone.

I think the police will find out who shot the gun and will arrest him and charge him as an adult for murder. Even though he was only 17 he still shot it into the air and killed the farther. If I did a crime and I didn’t wan to get away with it I would have to confess and serve my time. Technically he did shoot the gun but he didn’t know that the bullet would hit someone. I thought a crime hadn’t been committed but he still could be charged for murder or man-slaughter.

Swallowing Stones I think is getting very narrowed down because now they now the person who shot the bullet was it the block area and the cops are going door to door and investigating and every one is so anxious but overall I think the book is kind of dull.
