Swallowing Stones

In Swallowing Stones, the inciting indecent is when Michael shoots the gun off in the air. Since that moment, how many lives have been altered? Was everyone's life altered or changed? In what way? We also learn about two different perspectives Jenna's and Micheal's. Why does the author do this? if you knew the entire story, how would you react as parents? As their friends? How do yo think the law should handle things? How will lives change when the truth comes out, because it always does.

What do you think will be the biggest discrepency in the perspectives of the kids in the book? Why do you think the teens in the story have such an awkward time being around each other? What do you think is the hardest thing about being a teenager? Why do you think that?

3-13-09

How do you think Michael feels with his world closing in on him? Do you think he'll just admit to what he did or will he keep digging himself a deeper hole? Also, what about his friend Joe? How do you think he'll react to being put on the spot? Would he tell what really happened? How will the parents react? How about the community?

3-27-09

In Swallowing Stones the story is coming to a climax. Explain how the author is making this happen. Do you think the boys will admit to shooting the gun off? How do you think the people in the community will react once they find out the truth? What punishment do you think the boys will receive? Should it be the same? Different?

In Swallowing Stones, not many people have been affected by the gun shot. Many thing have changed but not many people are emotionally hurt except for Micheal and Jenna. Micheal is constanly paranoid and at the same time feels horrible for what happened while Jenna is emotionally scarred and can't beleive her father is dead. Their friends haven't been that much affected by what happened but things have changed.

After Michael shot the gun off in the air the lives of everyone in the town was changed forever. All the people in the toens lives where changed because they all know now that anything can happen and you can be there one minute and not the next. We learned about the two different perspectives of them so we know how they are both feeling.

What last happened Michael went to the pool and found it really awkward that Jenna was their. Jenna and her friend went into the bathroom because they where depressed with their lives’ and told a story about how her mom died. I think this book is to over dramatic and I think it is very boring.

From Mary

Jenna: She will live the rest of her life with out a father.
Meredith Ward: She will never see her late husband, ever again.
Jenna's Dad: IS DEAD!!!
Michael: He killed someone w/o any sort of intention of killing someone and has no idea what to do about it, or how to confess to someone.

I think the author has different perspectives, so that you can see the story from two views, although it's really annoying, that you have to read the same thing twice.

I wouldn't know what to do about it, if my child killed someone.. I wouldn't know what to do if my friend killed someone. Send Michael to juvey. Relationships will be lost.

I think that Michael’s life was altered because now he is guilty but he can always just get over it. Jenna I think he whole life changed because now she doesn’t have her father and doesn’t have someone in her life that she loved dearly. I think the author changes the perspective because to show that there lives have changed and what they are doing. If I was a friend or a family member and knew I would be very upset but I would want to try to understand that it was an accident and I think that the law should take some order and maybe give a little discipline but not a lot because he didn’t try to do it on purpose. Jenna and her family will probably be mad; Jenna’s friend will probably not like Michael anymore.

The kids in Swallowing Stones are probably so weird around each other because one of the kids in extremely depressed and another is having a panic attack becuase he killed someone. Those two kids probably start all the awkward conversation and places.

I think that they’re so awkward around each other because they don’t really know each other; and because of what their going through. Especially with Michael and Jenna; having to deal with killing a person and Jenna’s father being killed. I think the hardest thing of being a teen is having to deal with friends and planning out your future.

Dear Ms. Lengyel,
Here is the blog for 3/6/09.
I think the biggest problem will be when Michael confesses. They are all socially ackward teenagers, because they are weird and they know stuff about each other. No one cares about your opinions or feelings on things.

Michael probably is feeling scared and alone, while his world is falling apart before his eyes. Probably just dig a deeper whole. His friend will probably just be drunk or something. He probably would tell. His parents and his community will probably react the same way; be stunned and surprised and not react very well.

i think he is deffently feeling scared and i do not thing that he will give in i thingk that he will keep the blame on his friend but he wants to say something but wont and whan the word gets out that it was his frined he will be hated by all

Micheal can probably see's an end to hiding that he killed Jenna's dad. If I was him i would have already confessed and now I think he's just being stupid trying to hided it when the walls are closing in around him. Micheal is also not thinking of his friend Joe. Since he's not confessing now the police are going to search his house and involve him more.

In swallowing stones many people have been impacted by this death. People are scared for their life but they no it was an accident. People are scared more emotionally that phisiclly. But Jenna fells the most pain because of her father death that she still cant get over. Many things have changed since that fourth of July

In Swallowing Stones it has been moving kind of slow but it's starting to pick up. The cops are looking at michael thinking that he was the one who shot the gun but they can't find it. Also we have also found out that Michael was the one who cleaned up the gutters. And we are waiting to see what happenes with the cops.

I think that he doesn't know what to do and can't figure out what he should do. I think that he'll keep lieing and trying get out of trouble, I don't think that he's ever going to admit it. I think that Joe is going to get out of it and so is Micheal. I also think that Joe is going to freak out at first but then he'll understand and then they'll try to think of a way they can get out of all of this.

I have a feeling that Michael will not admit the fact that he killed Charlie Ward and will keep bottling it up and will always be very uneasy and lost for rest of his life.

Here we are again with the Ripley’s book. This time I read about a water skiing chimp being pulled by a dolphin. Next I read about a guy that received a soccer medal and the chance to be MVP, but that was because he had 3 legs. Then there was a house that was made out of glass bottles. They said that if one of the glass bottles broke the house would break.

in swallowing stones people are getting really depressed especially the girl that lost her dad. She has to pack up all her dad's clothes because she thinks its no use of her having it so she is giving the clothes away and while she is doing this she is crying.

I can see this book coming to a climax because there is more problems now and the problems he has had are soon ending. I think Micheal can't cover up kill that man anymore and will soon be found out and Joe shouldn't take the blame.

From Mary:

The story is now coming to a climax, because all of the story is starting to unfold and things are happenening and people are finding stuff out about other people. At this point, I think it could go either way, about the boys coming out about shooting the gun ogg. I think that the community will be shocked when the truth unfolds. Jail time, or I think that one of them will die somehow (that sounds really negative but I think it might happen.) I think their punishment will me different, for doing different things.

Chenoa said...

The climax is happening right now in Swallowing Stones and the story is coming all together. I think that Michael and his friend want to say something and they feel that it has gone too far to do something about it now. When the people in the community find out they will be shocked and some people will heat them both for it. If or when the community finds out they both will probably go to jail. I think that if they get in trouble for what they did both should get the same punishment.

ISAAC wrote this

In swallowing stones the police are are getting closer and closer to Michael and now that Joe has been drawn into this it is going to be very tough for Michael or Joe to avoid being caught by the cops. But they do get caught I think they both will go to jail. Michael will go for murder while Joe will be convicted of conspiracy being an accomplice during the killing of Charlie Ward.

Ms. Lengyel said...

From Kaelyn...

I think that they will figure out a way to not get in trouble. They will be really mad and they won't really talk to the boys probably because Jenna's Dad was a good person. Also I think that all their friends will be mad. I think that they wil only have to do little things because it was an accident. I think that Micheal should have to do more because he actually commit the crime.

Swallowing Stones was generally about a kid who shoots off his new rifle into the air on the 4th of July, but little did he know untill a week or two later was that the bullet he shot off came back down and had hit someone in head killing him. I thought the book was much longer than it has to be. The ending was very pointless and nothing was resolved in the end which made me dislike the book more. Overall i wouldn't advise anyone to read this book.

Swalling Stones was not that very good. I thought that it was too dragged on. Also I thought that a lot more could have happen, like something more exciting. I think that I would have liked it better if the book was sped up a little bit, but that’s just my opinion. I would recommend this book to people who like mysteries and drama.

In Swallowing Stones, the story end really badly and didn't have a good ending. I think that the author shouldn't of let it the way so we don't know what happened to any of the people and the solution to the problems that they ar ebeing faced with. Yes she did give us that Michael and Jenna talked but she didn't say what happened when they did and how they reacted.
